The Wettest Place on Earth

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

The world is full of opposites. It is strange that one of the wettest places on earth actually has a water shortage for humans. How can this be? The purported wettest place on Earth is Mawsynram, India, with an annual rainfall of 12 meters. Since their elevation is so high, the clouds are forced to dump their high water content.

The problem for the Indians that live there is that due to high erosion rates, the water quickly flows downstream. Deforestation has caused the soil to erode and has left nothing to hold the water. It’s amazing to me how man can have such an impact on the natural ways of our earth. I really hope that someday mankind will learn to treat the Earth with respect and dignity!

I don’t remember

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

It seems that I have been having a serious problem remembering my passwords lately. I have acquired a number of them over the years and they are starting to add up. I have had to send off for reminders, but that has only led to having to remember the answers to the reminder questions!

One thing I did was to change my passwords to the same ones for multiple sites. That way I have reduced the number I needed to remember. I know that is not the greatest move as far as security is concerned, but I felt the need to do it. Anyway, what’s done is done and at least now I can access the sites I need too.

On the Road Again!

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Recently, I had a bit of trouble with my car. It had been running a little rough and it finally gave out. I knew that it would be expensive for me to take it to a repair shop, so I started to ask around. My friend Bob recommended that I use the place where he gets his Car Parts. Since he is a mechanic, I followed his advice.

I used the website called 24/7spares.co.uk. They had everything I needed. I compared the prices and decided I could save money by buying some Used Car Parts. I was glad to find the car breakers that I had been looking for. I must also admit that I was surprised at how fast the service was available. I’m glad I listened to my friend Bob and soon I’ll be back on the road!

Stamps

The U.S. Postal Service is planning to come out with new 44-cent stamps. These stamps will celebrate the Simpsons TV show. Each character on the show will have their own stamp. Homer, Bart, Marge, Lisa, and Maggie Simpson will be stuck on envelopes everywhere.

The Postal Service receives about 50,000 stamp suggestions each year. Unfortunately, only around 20 can be selected. It would be fun though to come up with a stamp idea. Anyone who has a good stamp idea should feel free to send it in for consideration. I wish you would be stamp creators good luck!

The rising ocean

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Throughout the world, we are seeing the effects of the rising water levels in our ocean. One country that has reported a serious problem is France. With a coastline of over 186 miles, France is suffering erosion of its beaches. Scientist reported that climate change is responsible for the problem.

France’s tourism trade is bearing the brunt of the effects of sand and beach loss. The country has made efforts to limit the problem by dumping sand on its beaches, but that is expensive and a temporary fix as the sand erodes once again. There are emerging technologies such as hydraulic sand pumping that are being tested and used to mitigate the problem. I hope that the world will recognize the serious problem of global warming and begin to seriously address the issue!
