Branch Sunday
Sunday, April 5th, 2009It’s what some folks around here call Branch Sunday. Always falling on the Sunday before Easter, it is celebrated by millions around the world. Its origins come from the day that Jesus entered Jerusalem. His followers lined the road and threw palm fronds in his path.
In many churches, the distribution of palms leaves tied to resemble a cross are given out to patrons. Some churches found it difficult to get palm leaves and so substituted boughs of willow, yew, or box trees. This led to the day being called Branch Sunday. Call it what you will, have a great day!
