Favorite Songs

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

I have listened to music all my life. There are many great songs by many great artists. One of the ones I wanted to speak about was a song called “Cortez the Killer” by Neil Young. From his 1975 album entitled “Zuma”, this is one of the songs that is legendary in my mind.

The song describes the actions of Hernan Cortes and his conquest of the Aztec Indians. The destruction caused by one civilized people over another civilized people. This song has the capacity to haunt the listener with a strange feeling of compassion for things lost.
I highly recommend giving this song a listen and see what feelings it brings to you.

Family First

I had a great talk with mom today. I don’t get to talk with her as often as I would like. She said she found a bunch of old pictures of the family and was wondering if we could get them blown up. I thought I had a better idea. I asked her to send me the photos and I would take care of it.

The thing is that I know of a great way to handle the situation. What I’m going to do is have the pictures made into a portrait. There is a website called paintyourlife.com where they have real artists who will paint a portrait from the pictures you have. They can even make one portrait from several different paintings. I selected the pictures I wanted done and sent it off. The resulting painting I received was wonderful. I am going to send it to mom as a mothers day gift. I know she will love it. It is good to know that she will always have a beautiful reminder of the family and not have to rely on old faded pictures.

Happy Easter!

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

I want to wish everybody a happy Easter! We are all looking forward to a visit from the Easter bunny. Unfortunately, the kids are a little to old for the traditional Easter egg hunt. Nowadays, we settle for the usual trip to church and a big meal!

In my opinion, Easter is one of the better holidays. I like it because you really don’t have to decorate. Christmas means putting up lights and trees. On Halloween, we usually try to make a scary atmosphere by our front door. On Easter though, you don’t have to do anything! That’s a needed break.
