Coins
Thursday, April 16th, 2009I was looking through some of the boxes in my closet. I found the box which held my old coin collection. I realized that most of the coins were just about worthless, (who collects Canadian pennies?). Anyway, I did find one that was interesting.
I have an 1870 P two cent piece. I did some research on the coin which was designed by the then Chief Engraver James b. Longacre. The coins were produced from 1864 to 1873. Even though it’s a beautiful coin, the public apparently did not like it. The two cent coins were not popular. One interesting fact is that these coins were the first to have “In god we trust” on them.
Unfortunately, the coin is not worth as much as you think it would be. But, I do like anyway. I was thinking about getting back into the coin collecting thing. Its fun to hold something that old!
