Cover me…

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

My mom is the greatest person on earth. She is always thinking of me and wants to make sure I have everything I need. She bought me a comforter blanket for my bed years ago. It has served its purpose well. It has kept me warm throughout the years and I always think of her when I see it.

I’m glad to have had my mom in my life. I don’t know what I would do without her. I hope that if she ever reads this (I pretty sure she will), I hope she knows how much I appreciate all she has done for me. Love you mom!!

Greatest Hits

I was going through my music collection the other day. I pulled out my Beatles Greatest hits CD. I put it in and I really enjoyed hearing the old songs play. I’ve always liked the way they sing and their lyrics were always top-notch. Who couldn’t like the Beatles?

I really hope the kids pick up the great music when they hear it. I am always glad to have a good influence on them when possible. I know the band is gone and will never return, but I’m glad their music lives on!

Managing the Fleet

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

There are lots of ways we try to save money around our office. Since we spend most of our money on distribution, we thought that would be a great area to save in. We found that by using trucker software, we could cut our costs in this department. We first heard about the technology from a man we recently hired. He told us that he used to work driving the big rigs. According to him, our operation was outdated compared to where he used to work.

We looked into the situation as he was adamant that we could do better. After we contacted a company called Melton Technologies, Inc, we became convinced that we could use some new ideas. We started to implement their software on a trail basis. We started with just a few trucks. After a few months, we realized that we needed to take advantage of this management tool for the whole fleet.

Our distribution department is no longer in disarray. We have shortened our delivery times, saved money on gas, and improved our maintenance schedules. I never would have thought that logistics could play such an important role in our bottom line. We gave our new employee a one time bonus for saving the company thousands of dollars. Now that we are on the right road, I guess we will just keep on trucking!
