The rising ocean
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009Throughout the world, we are seeing the effects of the rising water levels in our ocean. One country that has reported a serious problem is France. With a coastline of over 186 miles, France is suffering erosion of its beaches. Scientist reported that climate change is responsible for the problem.
France’s tourism trade is bearing the brunt of the effects of sand and beach loss. The country has made efforts to limit the problem by dumping sand on its beaches, but that is expensive and a temporary fix as the sand erodes once again. There are emerging technologies such as hydraulic sand pumping that are being tested and used to mitigate the problem. I hope that the world will recognize the serious problem of global warming and begin to seriously address the issue!
