Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong, that’s Murphy’s Law and it has happened to us. We had a very important project we were working on at our office. After a month of hard work, we were nearly done. This job was for one of our most important clients and we really wanted to do a good job. As soon as we were ready for the next phase, that’s when disaster struck! The hard drive that contained the bulk of our hard won data failed.

Naturally, there was a major panic and no one seemed to have the answer to the problem. Much of the information on the drive could not be replaced. That’s when a thought occurred to me. I was working in a building the other day. I noticed a man on the elevator who was taking a large electrical cabinet downstairs. I asked what he was going to do with it. He told me it was headed for the trash. I asked if I could have it and he said sure.

We loaded it right into my car. To my surprise, he had a lot more to come. They were replacing an outdated telephone system. I went home and unloaded my prize. I turned a few screws, and separated the circuit boards out from the wire and metal. The next day, I went to the scrap yard. I was happy to find that I had made $70. Not a bad job!
