How dry I am

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Located on the Chilean coast, the Atacama Desert is the driest place on earth. The desert is estimated to be over 20 million years old and 50 times drier than Death Valley in California. On one side is the Andes Mountains which block rain from entering the desert. The seaward side has a coastal inversion layer which stops moisture from rising over the land.

Caused by the offshore Humboldt Current, the inversion layer is when cold moisture rich air cannot rise because hot air sits on top of it forcing it to stay on the coast. The result is an average rainfall of just 1mm per year. This means it would take 100 years to fill up a coffee cup. There are many other interesting facts about this place. I think it would be fun to check it out!

Oops

I was kind of in a hurry. I had gotten a side job doing some pressure washing. I got home from work and was trying to get everything together. My truck is down right now so I had to use the car. Stuffing my hoses and extension cords into the truck was no easy task as I already had the washer there.

Anyway, what I wanted to say was that I left my cell phone on top of the car. I took off and drove out of my neighborhood, down Rosemont rd, and took a left at the school. When I turned right, something flew off the car. It was my phone. When I went back to get it, it was trashed! It still turned on, but the screen was shattered! I think I have insurance on the phone, but it will be a hassle to get it replaced!

Second Time Around

I recently went on a trip to Las Vegas. The problem was that since it was a surprise for work, I didn’t have much time to plan ahead. The trip was good, but I certainly feel I could have had a better time with more planning. I was thinking of going back again, but this time I’ll be ready. I found a great way to find out more information on the Las Vegas scene.

I have doing the research online and realized that not only didn’t bring the right clothes, I also wasn’t aware of some of the big events that were scheduled. I found a website called Vegas Chill. It has all the information on Las Vegas that you could ever need. They have information on sports events, the best hotels, and concerts and shopping. Virtually everything you need is all there.

Now that I look back on my trip, I realize that my dress was entirely out of sync with the latest styles. I must have looked like a tourist. I found a cure for that as well by using the site to enhance my knowledge of Vegas fashion. The next time I get there, I’ll be dressed to kill and will attend all the hottest events. I’m glad that it was made easy by a truly good website!

Using Less

Every once in awhile, I get a little fed up with the bills I pay. It seems we go through a lot of energy at our house. The gas and the electric bills are sky high! I was looking for ways to bring these bills down to a more affordable rate. I went online and found some simple ways to help.

I saw that we could wrap our hot water heater in a blanket. This is supposed to help keep in the heat.
I already had the Compact fluorescent light bulbs, but I will continue to buy more!
To help with the water bill, I got some new shower heads and put them in.
I also got some power strips so I could easily turn off the power to multiple things at once.

These are just a few of the ideas I found. I will be keeping an eye out for additional money-saving tips!

Time Sharing

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

Throughout the years, we have been friends with John and Nancy. We were married around the same time and have met from time to time for a night out. I was very distressed to hear that they will be filing for a divorce. It seems such a shame as they were very well suited. Anyway, they were going over some of the difficult things that come with divorce. One of their difficulties was how to handle the kids.

The most fortunate part about their split was that they were not overly disagreeable with each other. They did both have lawyers, but they really wanted not to have to use them. They were both able to agree to use a Parenting Plan. This software enabled them to come up with a plan for the kids that they could turn into the courts for review. The benefit of this was that they could both save money because they could do this themselves.

Now they have a time sharing plan that they can turn into the courts. I’m glad they were able to agree on this solution, they may have spent a lot of time and money had they not found this service. I wish them both the best moving forward with their lives and hope they will stay in touch with us.
