Skinned alive

Being as that I live near the beach, I often like to lay out and catch a few rays. Some days though, it just doesn’t work out. As it was a bright and sunny day and I had some time to kill, I put on my shorts, gathered my towel, sunglasses, and lotion and headed down to the oceanfront. I knew it was windy out, but I didn’t realize the effect it would have.

Trying to lay out my towel took a minute or two as the wind kept blowing it away. But I carried on and after using my shoes to anchor it down, I was ready for some rays. No sooner had lain out; a huge gust of wind blasted me with a wave of sand that felt like needles all over my body. I had to shut my eyes to avoid being blinded and squirmed around to keep the sand from blasting my face. You wouldn’t think that windblown sand could be so painful. After being blasted time and again by this invisible wall of razor-sharp grains of rock, I finally had to admit defeat and hurried back to the safety of my car!
