The Big Nine

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Americans have been very touchy of late about the huge bonuses and perks that top executives have received. With their companies failing, they have seemingly looted the cashbox and left the American people with the bill. They have calmed it down some since there has been so much public pressure. I was shocked to hear that there are still some government officials who are taking advantage of the old system to enhance their own personal well being. These are our Supreme Court justices.

While the salaries for our Supreme Court Justices are not huge, they receive numerous perks that come with the job. Their offices are plush with Smithsonian artwork and in some cases even a fireplace. They have their own gym that has a basketball court. Each justice has up to four clerks who write their opinions for them. Did I mention they have the summer off from work?

I know the job the do is important, but I do wonder of they could not let go of some of these costly extras and help the taxpayers in this time of financial need. I think that all Americans who work for the government need to try and reduce the huge amounts of money they are spending on themselves and start to apply that money to our national debt!

Time will tell

Ever since we remodeled our house, we have felt like we were missing something. No one could figure out what it was until my son said something about a clock. All of a sudden, we all realized that he was right. We had new furniture and pictures, but no clock on the wall. Right away, we knew that having a , was the answer to our problem. It would be the missing link to our living room.

When I was young, one of my father’s prized possessions was always in our sight. It was one of those large grandfather clocks that we always see in any stately room. I knew that we would have to have one in order to carry on the family tradition that had held for so long. I don’t know why I didn’t see it before. I was glad that my son was able to understand its importance.

Every great room always has a grandfather’s clock. It just goes with the territory. I knew that our home was lacking in this area and that it would be enhanced by having one. As it so happens, we have just the place to put it as well. I’m glad that we will be able to carry on the family tradition of owning a wonderful piece of art. The fact that it will be functional is of great importance as well. As for the future of our family, time will tell!

Transit Bus Drivers

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

You see the buses running every day; they go from place to place picking up and dropping people off. I think the buses are a good idea in general, but they do produce a few problems. One of these problems is the bus drivers themselves. They drive like maniacs! In the last couple of days I have been cut off several times by buses.

I understand that these people have a schedule to keep, but they really need to settle down a bit. Buses are very heavy and therefore very dangerous. I don’t want to tangle with a bus so I try to stay out of their way. I hope that these drivers are being properly trained for their jobs!

Is it Finally Over?

One item I noticed in the news today was that the war in Sri Lanka may finally be over. The Sri Lankan government forces have finally delivered a decisive defeat to the Tamil Tigers who have been fighting for a separate state for so long. There is still some mopping up to do with the last of the guerrillas who are still fighting. The world is celebrating this victory as a defeat for terrorist.

One of the messy parts of war is the large number of refugees who have been displaced from their homes. In recent months over 250,000 civilians have fled the fighting, this has led to a major concern for their safety and welfare. I am glad to hear that this war may be near its end. This war has lasted for over 25 years and caused many deaths and much destruction. I hope the two sides will be able to put aside their differences and begin the healing process.

Just Starting Out

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

When my friend James was considering starting his online business, he had a lot of questions. After he turned to me for help, I tried to steer him onto the right path. James has been dealing in books all his life. He is very knowledgeable about a wide variety of books and their value. Since he has amassed all this information, he has decided to start an online book store.

The biggest problem that James has is that he knows next to nothing about how to start the website he wants. I informed him that he would need to find a domain name and it would be wise to find a company to provide dedicated server hosting. I told him about the site that I used to select my web hosting when I started my business. It’s called webhostinggeeks.com. They allow you to select the proper web hosting service for you. They have already done the hard work of comparing the sites make it easy for you to choose the correct one.

James was very satisfied with my expertise and took advantage of the site right away. He now is the proud owner of a brand new online business and has had no problem with the unexpected heavy traffic his site encountered. I was glad to be able to help my friend and it looks like another happy ending!
