Death with Dignity

There has somewhat of a controversy over the new Washington State law that provides for the ability to end one’s own life. The law known as death with dignity allows people who are terminally ill to end their own life by taking a deadly dose of barbiturates. The first person in the state of Washington did so the other day, her name was Linda Fleming. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, she ended her life at her home surrounded by family, physicians, and her dog.

I personally favor this law. I think that people who are dying should have the right to end their life to prevent needless suffering. One reservation I have with this law is ensuring that it is not abused. I believe that strict measures should be taken to ensure the patient has truly made their choice to go. I think we will all hear more about this situation, but I think we are ready to tackle this subject!
