Komodo

Monday, May 25th, 2009

On Komodo island in the land of Indonesia lives the only modern day dragon. With poisonous venom and shark like teeth, they make a living killing deer and scavenging dead animals. For many years the villagers have lived side by side with these creatures in apparent harmony. The problem is that now the dragons have started to attack the villagers and have actually killed some.

Park rangers in the Komodo National Park worry about the future of these animals. They do not have an answer for the increased aggression of the dragons. The situation is still seemingly under control, but more information is needed before an answer can be found. I certainly hope that these creatures will continue to thrive in their natural environment.

Memorial Day Thanks!

Monday, May 25th, 2009

On the last Monday of each May, we Americans give tribute to the fallen men and women of our armed forces. This important holiday reflects on the sacrifices these people have made in defending our country. I support all members of the military and think they should receive all that is due to them.

You can believe that at 3 p.m. eastern time, I will be at a cemetery taking part in a national moment of remembrance for those who have given this country the freedom it enjoys. I also would like to remind all persons to fly their American flag at half-mast to honor our heroes!

The Right Gear!

Monday, May 25th, 2009

My brother is a part time police officer. He works during special events helping to keep the crowds orderly. Since he does a lot of patrolling, he needs to be sure that he has the most comfortable clothing he can find. The hard part is finding the right gear to purchase. I ran across a website that has the things he is looking for.

I informed him about a site called lapolicegear.com. They have a large selection of the tactical gear he would need. They even have the 5.11 Pants he has been wanting. I was glad to help him out as I believe he does an important job. I’ll feel good knowing he has the items necessary to do his job in a professional manner!

The Incas

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

One of the most fascinating things in the history of humans is the Inca Indians. They were a civilization centered in South America and were very advanced for their time. Becoming a major force in the region somewhere around the 1300 hundreds, they conquered much of the area around them. They had many habits that would seem strange to us, but it seems to have worked well for them.

They believed in the Sun God and worshipped him as their god. They believe their king was a “child of the sun”. They also made many advances that would be surprising to us. They were able to perform skilled operations such as brain surgery and had a written language. Their empire came to an end with the arrival of the Spaniards, but they live on in the minds of those who remember.

Parking, Parking, Parking

One thing about living near the beach is that you get to know the ins and outs of the place. Every local who goes to the beach knows that parking the car will figure into where you go and what you do. The only good thing is that I have learned to adjust and I know some of the good places to go. Whenever you visit Virginia Beach, you need to head for the 8th street parking lot.

This is probably the best lot at the beach. It’s rarely filled and has good access to the boardwalk. It is also close to a little spot I know on 5th street which will often have a band. I like to hear the music and often go there when I have the chance. As far as the rest of the place, good luck! I sure that the local officials will address the problem and find some kind of solution. The beach will never be able to grow any unless additional parking is found.
