New Credit Card Rules
Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009A new law was signed into effect by President Barack Obama. The law will allow for new protections against some of the credit card companies controversial billing practices. One of the key components of the bill bars companies from raising rates on borrowers until they are more than 60 days behind. The companies must also give 45 days of advanced notice.
The new law does have some detractors though. They say it does not address the practice of affinity-card contracts. These contracts between the schools and the credit card company award the school significant amounts of money to hand over the students contact information and email addresses. As the battle between consumers and credit card company’s rages on, we all agree that some of the steps necessary have been taken to improve the relations between creditors and borrowers.
