The new guy

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

I was talking to the new guy at our office the other day. He transferred in from the Midwest. His name is John and he will be taking care of some of our inventory problems. We were talking about his life in general when he confided in me that he had undergone some cosmetic dentistry. I knew that it had paid off for him as he had a great smile. He went to tell me some of the things they had done for him.

He said that his teeth had always been a mess. Since he was young, he had many gaps and some teeth were crooked. Some of his problems were very serious and it would require a great deal of work. He said that he was fortunate that he was able to acquire the services of Dentist Edmond Oklahoma . He was very happy with the results and with the people who take care of him. I was glad for him and welcomed him to the team. I am sure he will do well with the ladies as he is a good looking guy with a great smile!

Dealers got dealt

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

We’ve all heard about the big troubles the auto industry has been having. Recently, a new trouble has arisen. Many car dealers have been let go as part of the repositioning of the big three auto makers. It has been a painful process. Some of the dealers have been in business for many decades. Chrysler has announced the closing of nearly 25% of its dealerships.

The lost franchisees are going to hurt many of the local economies. Hundreds of jobs depend on the selling of new and used cars. The ripple effect throughout the community will be felt as well. With the job market in shambles, many people will have a tough time trying to make a living. The dealers have appealed to Washington for help, but as of yet, none is forthcoming. We will have to wait and see what the final effect of these dealers’ closings will have.

Carbon Permits

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

The Obama administration is set to pass a large bill that will take steps to curb planet killing greenhouse gases. The legislation encompasses a wide variety of measures to reduce emissions and save energy. There is of course much debate on the bill and its effectiveness. Those to the right of the aisle say the bill will cost consumers too much money and that energy prices will rise dramatically. Those on the left of the aisle say the bill does not go far enough.

The center of the bill revolves around a plan to set a cap on the amount of pollution a company can make. If the company goes over the limit, they will have the option to purchase “carbon permits” that they can buy. The debate rages on in Washington, but all feel that at least something is being done! I hope the plan will do its intended purpose and actually work!

Protecting your family

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Since my cousin Joanne was recently married, we all wanted to be sure they got off to a good start. One of the things I did to help them was to ensure they knew about how to protect themselves financially. One of the best things they could do was to have affordable life insurance. This is a relatively easy way to make the transition easier if something ever happened to one of them. We all hope they will have long and prosperous lives, but in the event something goes wrong we wanted to have some protection.

One of the most preventable tragedies in life is that someone dies and leaves their family with no support. There is no excuse for that these days with the easy availability of low cost life insurance. No matter how tight your budget seems to be, we should all be able to afford that little bit of protection against the worst case scenario. In most cases, a few dollars a month will suffice.

I have seen many people who could have prevented a financial meltdown of their family after they passed away. I think that any reasonable person should take steps to ensure their families won’t have to worry about finances at these most difficult times. I’m glad that these newlyweds have decided to take the necessary precaution against unforeseeable tragedies.

Bear Facts

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

As man and nature continue to vie for space, run-ins with wild animals are becoming more commonplace. Most of the time it’s just a nuisance, such as a raccoon in your garbage, but when it’s a black bears it’s a whole different story. The Black bear population has grown tremendously since many states have enacted strict limits on hunting them. This has allowed the bear population to soar.

The bear population is estimated to be 350,000 in the U.S. this is up from 165,000 in 1989. An increasing number of encounters have led to some serious injuries and even the deaths of many people. Some states such as Kentucky have once again allowed the hunting of these animals to increase their fear of humans. I certainly advise that anyone who encounters a wild bear will take the steps necessary to avoid becoming a victim!
