Higher and Higher

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

My cousin who lives in California is really an outdoor kind of guy. He loves to fish, hunt, and hike. Lately, he has become enamored with a new sport, mountain climbing. He loves the challenge it presents and he is getting very good at it. He goes out with his friends and they have been climbing higher and higher mountains ever since they started. They are only limited by the equipment they have.

They are very picky about the Climbing Gear they use. They tend to be perfectionists and demand the best of everything. Since they are risking their lives while climbing, I guess I can’t blame them. They usually use Outdoor Research equipment to make their lives a little easier. They know it’s a brand they can trust and one that produces quality. I know they think the world of it and I imagine they would know best.

When my cousins birthday came around, he began hinting about some gear from La Sportiva that he would like to have. I took that as a hint and decided to purchase the equipment he wants. I know that he will put it to good use and I think he’ll be very happy with it. As for me, I think I’ll stay at or near sea level!

Seinfeld revisited

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

The famous TV series Seinfeld marked its 20th anniversary on July 5th. The show about nothing ran for years and still lives on in repeats. The shows plot was based on Jerry and his friends, notably George, Elaine, and Kramer. They managed to find the humor in a series of seemingly mundane everyday occurrences. The show is now a part of American culture.

One of the best parts about the show was the appearance of its many guest characters. The most notable was Newman the mailman who was Jerry’s arch enemy. His antics always kept us on edge. Another guest was David Puddy, Elaine’s sometime boyfriend. We all miss seeing these characters in action. While there are no plans to restart the show, there is a reunion scheduled on HBO next fall.

Going Mobile

One thing we all understand around our house is the ability to send and receive messages from almost anywhere. It can be difficult to stay in touch with each other and knowing who is doing what and where is important. That’s why I decided to look into alternate ways of doing things. I think I’ve found a great way to accomplish the goals we have set. A friend of mine informed me about netbooks, and I think I’m going to give them a try.

After looking into the situation, I decided to purchase some net books for the entire family. This way we can all stay in touch no matter where we go. I did want to find a good deal on them, so I did a price comparison on some of the more popular brands. I believe that I have found the best model for us and at a great price! I know the kids will be delighted when they get theirs.

I’ll be glad to rid myself of that big cumbersome laptop I’ve been lugging around. Now that I see the advantages of the net book, I’ll always be glad I was one of the first to have one. I’ve always considered myself a trend setter and I believe this is another opportunity to do so.

Sharks!

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

There has been some debate over the issue of shark tours. This is when a company lowers visitors in a steel cage after baiting sharks with a free lunch to attract them. The tourist pay big money to see the sharks up close, but there are many who disagree with the tours.

Many native Hawaiians view the sharks as ancestral gods and take exception to their being exploited. Researchers worry that by feeding the sharks, they will be more likely to link humans with food making it more dangerous for surfers and swimmers. We will see the outcome of this issue as I plan to keep an eye out on it.
