Walter

Monday, July 20th, 2009

One thing that I grew up with was the voice of Walter Cronkite on the CBS news saying “And that’s the way it is”. Every night he would be there telling us about the latest news from around the world. He had a way of presenting the story that was uniquely his own. That’s why I was so disappointed when I heard that he had finally passed away.

Walter seemed to be an institution for a long time. He lent credibility to the nightly news. It’s been awhile since we have had that credibility to date. I remember when he retired that the world was a lesser place without him; I still feel the same way.

Another Great Idea!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

As I like to keep track of new technologies, I ran across a really good one the other day. It involves using recycled plastics to make railroad ties. I think it’s a pretty good idea. Everyone knows we have plenty of plastic to be recycled and there is always a need for new railroad ties. The two seem to fit together. There were some interesting facts that I’d like to share.

One thing is that these ties meet all the standards set by the government. There has been a lot of testing before the idea was seriously considered. The second thing is that by using composite railroad ties, we can help the environment. Another good aspect is that many of the chemicals used to create wood railroad ties are not needed. I’ll be glad if this idea works out and the government takes advantage of it!

A new material

Monday, July 20th, 2009

I’ve been reading the news lately about a new material that scientists are working on. It’s called Graphene and it could be a potential wonder material. As the thinnest known material known to exist, it has many properties that excite scientists. It’s flexible, thin, and super conductive to electricity.

There could potentially be many new uses for the material. It may be used in computer chips or perhaps solar cells. The boundaries seem to be limitless. While it may still take awhile to perfect its making, major steps have been taken in its production. We’ll see what the future holds.

A Cool Place

Summer is the best time of year. I really like the fact that the kids are out of school and that we can take a vacation. It’s always good to take some time off to refresh and recharge your batteries. Since the kids did so well this year at school, I thought that they deserved a special treat. We decided to take a trip to a Myrtle Beach Resort. That way, we knew we would have a great time.

There are many benefits to visiting Myrtle Beach Resorts. They always have great service and there are many things to do. The best part is the great restaurants that serve the best meals. I also like the views of the ocean that are provided by the convenient location. Of course there are always the pools to relax in if needed. The whole time we are there is full of one adventure after another.

Once we decided that a vacation was in order, the first place I went online was to a site called Princeresortonline.com. I knew that I would be able to check on the availability of the rooms we needed. I knew the price would be acceptable and that the service would be great. This is the best site to find Myrtle Beach Accomodations that will be best suited to you. I hope that anyone who wants to join in the fun will contact me so that we can get together for a wonderful trip!

Cisco Blues

Monday, July 20th, 2009

It was unfortunate to hear that Cisco systems Inc has decided to lay off 600 to 700 workers this week. The bulk of the employees were employed at the company’s headquarters in San Jose. Cisco is the world’s largest computer network gear maker and has around 66,000 employees worldwide. The company is working to help the laid off employees find other jobs. The companies stock rose this week. I certainly hope that the layoffs will cease soon!
