Keeping Busy

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Every day when my daughter Beth gets home from school, she keeps a regular routine. I always insist that she completes her homework and does her chores. After that, she is free to do what she wants. The first thing she usually does is to head for the nearest computer and play games. She likes to play the girl games that are available online. It doesn’t seem to make a difference what time of year it is, she plays them just the same.

Since she is very fashion conscious, she prefers games where she can dress people up. She also likes celebrities and loves Britney Spears. There are games that involve this superstar as well. I like the fact that she is keeping busy and staying out of trouble. I hope she’ll continue this routine through her teenage years!

No bonuses for you

Since a large part of our current economic woes are being blamed on the big banks, congress is taking action to remedy the situation. On Friday, the house voted to change the way on how executives are paid from companies that took federal bailout money. The bill will affect thousands of workers.

With more oversight, the big banks will have to tighten their ships and start playing the Washington game. The bill attempts to link decision makers with the decisions they make. It is hoped that this will bring additional oversight to a troubled industry. We will see how it goes!

Recall

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I remember a time when automakers would do anything to avoid a recall. They would spend years in court defending their cars and did so for many years. Nowadays, there are recalls all the time, the latest coming from Honda over a faulty airbag system. I’m glad that car makers have finally come to their senses and begun to be more open about the mistakes they have made in making their cars. I teach my kids that honesty is the best policy and I think it still holds true.

Helping to start anew

One of the unfortunate aspects of being in charge of a large office is that from time to time you have to let someone go. Due to our company’s effort to be more competitive, I recently had to reduce our workforce. I felt terrible about having to do this sort of thing, but I had no choice. The worst part was that many of these people were good workers that I respected.

I felt that the least I could do was to help these people find new employment opportunities. I knew that I could give them all a good reference and did so on many occasions. Another way I tried to help was to steer them towards one of the best job boards out there. There are many job boards, but some are better than others. I thought that I would steer them towards one called employmentcrossing.com. This site is a little different from the rest but I’ll explain that in a minute.

This is one of the best job boards with thousands of jobs available. The big difference is that you have to pay to use it. I know that sounds bad, but don’t be too quick to judge. The price of searching dozens of “free” sites usually results in heartache. The best way to find career opportunities is to take advantage of the extensive listings this site offers. They do the research and list nearly every job available in your area.

The best part is that you don’t have to take my word for it. You can prove it to yourself by simply checking out the EmploymentCrossing Reviews page. The have testimonials from the people who have already benefited from their services. Although I am sorry to let so many people go, I am glad that they will be able to continue their careers and move on with their lives. I think that’s the most important thing of all.
