You’re not alone

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

I got a call from an old friend the other day who I haven’t heard from in a while. Bob and worked together many years ago in the Navy. We were as close as brothers and still remain good friends. We had much to talk about and catch up on. Bob is now in a fight for his life. He has developed a rare form of cancer called mesothelioma. At some point, he thinks he was exposed to asbestos which is known to cause the cancer.

Bob described to me some of the details about the cancer and how it had affected him. His specific problem is called peritoneal mesothelioma. Apparently, the abdominal area is covered by tissues which in turn are affected. He has investigated a wide range of treatment options that include everything from radiation treatment to alternative therapies. He knows that others have survived the cancer and he plans to do so as well.

Since Bob has entered a new phase of his life, he is hoping to set an example for others with his condition. He has provided me with valuable information about his mesothelioma prognosis and what his future holds. One thing I know is that Bob has always been a fighter and will surely do well in this battle for his life. I know that he is open to using every weapon at his disposal to combat this disease. I wish him all the best and look forward to many more years of his friendship.

Sand

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

There was an interesting article in today’s news that was kind of funny. It seems that tourists in Mexico City were blocked by police tape while attempting to access the beach in front of their hotel. Police have accused the hotel of illegally gathering the precious white sand that attracts tourists. Officers closed off hundreds of feet of beach.

The owner of the hotel has ignored previous warnings to remove the breakwater that catches the sand. He has also been accused of using pumps to gather sand from the seafloor and pumping it onto his beach. The outcome of the situation is still in doubt, but we’ll see what the future holds.
