Smugglers

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

As it turns out, Canada is becoming a haven for those who want to smuggle drugs into the United States. With increasing security along the border with Mexico, smugglers have found the Canadian border to be wide open. The increase in “Trade” as it were, is mostly being controlled by groups such as the Hells Angels.

In another twist, the smugglers have increasingly turned to using helicopters to bring in the drugs. The copters can skim the earth avoiding radar and land in almost any clearing. The copters have enhanced the smuggling operations and made it difficult to stop the trade. If there’s a will there’s a way.

So many clothes

Dealing with the kids is a constant battle. You have to stay on top of them to make sure they do their homework and chores. Whenever they manage to do them with out being told, they want something for it. I knew they were up to something when I got home and their chores were done as well as their homework. It turns out that they wanted clothes.

My daughter slyly left a page up on my computer showing the site zappos.com. She pointed out that they carried many types of Dresses that she would like to have. My son also got in on the action when he suggested that he would look cool if he had a new pair of Jeans. I think I have been outsmarted by my kids.

After all that, my wife had to put her two cents in and let me know that since the kids were shopping anyway, she might enjoy one of the Swimsuits they had available. The only plus side to this deal is that at least they have free shipping and 24 hour customer service. I guess I might as well find something I like myself and make a family affair of it.

King Salmon

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

There is distressing news about the King Salmon fish that are usually found in the Yukon River of Alaska. There gone. The local people who rely on the fish to get through the winter say this year’s usual spawning season has seen a dramatic drop in the number of fish. They blame the Pollock fishery that catches tons of Pollock from the Bering Sea.

Since huge nets are used to catch the Pollock’s, the Salmon are caught in the nets and are usually thrown overboard. This has effectively wiped out the salmon along with the villages that rely on them. There is some talk of new rules being written to reduce the problem, but we’ll have to see.
