Recovery or Not??

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

The administration of President Barack Obama keeps telling us that the economy will soon recover. This is despite recent news that the private sector has been cutting jobs instead of creating them. We learned today that over 10,000 jobs were cut in august by private companies.

This trend is threatening to extend the recovery and possibly throw us back into the mess we were trying so hard to get out of. I hope that these big companies will find a way to hold on to the workers they have and maybe even hire a few more. It sure would be good news.

Still sluggish

Friday, August 6th, 2010

Despite the hopes of millions of people, the U.S. economy is still sluggish. The latest numbers to come out of Washington show that unemployment is still high and new jobs are not being created at the necessary pace to allow for a complete recovery. This has many people scared about the future.

There are a few bright spots in the economy such as manufacturing which has risen slightly. Construction is still down as are the temporary jobs. Plans to raise the amount of cash needed for companies to work with are in the works and other options to stimulate the economy are being considered. I hope we can make it through these tough times.

Is China joining the world?

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

The country of China recently announced that it will eliminate restrictions on using foreign parts for its windmills. The effort to develop its own domestic power has led to the need to find assistance from foreign companies. The Chinese hope to expand their wind power industry in order to bolster their domestic power programs.

The Chinese are using power at an amazing rate. They are the fastest growing economic power in the world and need all the electricity they can get. I am glad that they are trying to find cleaner ways to produce the power they need. I am sure that it will help reduce the greenhouse gases that they are producing. I hope that China will continue to reach out to the rest of the world for answers to its power needs!

Cadmium for Lead

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

One thing that we’ve been hearing about is the Chinese who are sending us items that contain a high amount of lead. Since our government has taken control and outlawed the substance being used in the items we buy all the time (Children’s Toys) the Chinese have ceased using the dangerous metal. The problem is that they have switched from lead to Cadmium.

Cadmium is just as deadly as Lead. It is a toxic substance that can slow the development of learning and can shorten a person’s life. Since the ban on lead, experts have noticed an increase in the use of Cadmium in toys manufactured in China. I hope that China will soon realize that America is serious about protecting our children’s health. I call for the end of the use of Cadmium in children’s toys!!
