Haiti Earthquake

Monday, January 18th, 2010

We were all sorry to hear about the recent earthquake that devastated the country of Haiti. I was glad to find though that help is on the way to these people who are in desperate need of help. Agencies and organizations from all over the world are joining together and sending aid to the country. I am proud of the efforts by individual citizens of the United States that have given money to the relief effort.

I hope that everyone will continue to give the funds necessary to help rebuild the country as well as provide relief for the people who need it the worst. It’s hard to believe that such basic items such as water can save the lives of thousands of people. I pray that every citizen of Haiti will be able to overcome this tragedy.

That Pill!!

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Since I am reaching a certain age, I have begun to find that my body is not always up to the challenges that I would like to think I am still capable of. While I do take care of myself and am physically fit, I have found that I am not as young as I used to be. That’s why I have begun considering whether or not to buy Viagra. It seems like I am admitting that I am getting old and I am not comfortable talking about it with my doctor.

I looked around online and found that I am not the only one who may need help with their love life. There are plenty of other people who suffer from the same condition as I. One person that I would have never thought would be in this position was Enrique Iglesias. It turns out that he doesn’t care if people know of his position on the subject.

Another star that I never would imagine having to use this medicine was Simon Cowell. It turns out that the popular host of the show American Idol was recently offered a large amount of money to endorse the product. While he turned down the endorsement, I do wonder whether or not he is still using the product! I guess I’ll have to make my own decision on whether or not to seek help with my problem, but it sure is nice knowing that I am not alone!!

Haiti’s Quake

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

I was sorry to hear about the deadly earthquake that hit the country of Haiti this week. It turns out that no one really knows the amount of people who were killed or wounded and authorities fear that the number may be as high as 500,00. The magnitude 7.0 quake flattened houses, schools, and government buildings without regard to who was inside or out.

The International Red Cross is hurrying aid to the people and is asking for emergency donations from everyone to help the victims. I plan to send in a check tonight and hope that everyone else will do so as well. In the meantime, I hope that everyone will send up some prayers for the people who are suffering!

Cadmium for Lead

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

One thing that we’ve been hearing about is the Chinese who are sending us items that contain a high amount of lead. Since our government has taken control and outlawed the substance being used in the items we buy all the time (Children’s Toys) the Chinese have ceased using the dangerous metal. The problem is that they have switched from lead to Cadmium.

Cadmium is just as deadly as Lead. It is a toxic substance that can slow the development of learning and can shorten a person’s life. Since the ban on lead, experts have noticed an increase in the use of Cadmium in toys manufactured in China. I hope that China will soon realize that America is serious about protecting our children’s health. I call for the end of the use of Cadmium in children’s toys!!

Protecting our oceans

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

There has been some debate lately over who will protect our oceans. A recent die off of nearly 8,000 birds off the coast of Washington state has renewed the debate. An alga appears to have caused the deaths. The algae may have been caused by run off waters that contain fertilizers and other chemicals.

As usual, back in Washington D.C., the senators and congress are trying to get their act together. So far, little has been done to put together some kind of oversight to protect the waters that we all depend on to live. I hope they will be able to put aside their differences and find a way to work together so that we can enjoy our oceans.
