To shop or not to shop

Friday, November 25th, 2011

One of the big questions this weekend was whether to try to go out shopping or not. I know there are some good deals out there but it would be a pain in the butt to go out and find them. Since I do not have a specific item to buy in mind, I thought I would just wait until I needed something.

I did go out for a minute, but when I saw how crowded the mall was, I changed my mind and went home. I think I’ll enjoy my time here better than fighting with other shoppers.

Move to Texas

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

Written by my friend Teodoro Martin

When I first moved here to the Lone Star state I was really caught up in all the touristy ideas about the state itself. I thought everyone here wore a giant belt buckle and spent forever cooking pork each day but the more time I’ve spent here the more I’ve realized a lot of my ideas about the state are really antiquated and don’t really have any relevance nowadays. For example, Texas is really progressive in a lot of ways and they’re one of the only deregulated states out there which means I went to TexasELECTRICITYPROVIDERS.com to find an energy rate. Aside from the politics there are a lot of other things about life here that make living here better than other places, but I don’t want to start an online riot so I guess I’ll keep some of them to myself! All in all, I think I’ll be here for a while and I’m going to love every minute of it if I just keep my positive attitude about being here.

Penny stocks

Sunday, July 10th, 2011

The stock market is a scary place for most people. I myself am hesitant to put my money where I feel I have little control. I don’t really trust the big companies that run the markets and I certainly can’t afford to lose thousands of dollars in a day. The good news is that there is another route.

Penny stocks can be taken advantage of with very little investment capital. As long as we keep our investment small, we can have fun making or losing a few bucks. I have tried it a few times and have come out about even. I may never get rich, but I’ll have fun trying.

Spring Lamb

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Never have been a big fan of mutton or any kind of lamb. I just don’t like the strong taste of that meat. But I guess Easter means lamb for dinner for a lot of folks. I always thought Easter meant ham, but I have had two different people telling me how much they liked their lamb for Easter dinner on Sunday.

One girl bought a rack of lamb ribs, marinated them for a couple of hours and then cooked them on the grill over charcoal.

My buddy in Dallas says he got a whole leg of lamb, cut it in half and grilled half of it for his Easter dinner. The dog got the bone and everyone was happy.

Maybe the problem for me with lamb is that I’ve never had it grilled. I always had it baked like a roast beef and served with mint jelly. I guess I’d be willing to try it again if someone wanted to grill it and let me taste it. I don’t think I want to try it badly enough to do it myself, but I’ll consider any offers from my friends . . .

Mowing the lawn

Monday, March 28th, 2011

One thing I just remembered that I don’t like doing is mowing the lawn. I used to do it all the time but lately I just don’t want to do it anymore! I think it’s time that I teach my son responsibility and so I’ll give him a few lessons in lawn care. That will be nice!!
