Throughout history, religion has been a contentious point. It remains so in today’s world and here is another example of that. The country of Syria has long tried to remain a secular country. The Muslims have tried to influence its politics because of its large population there. The government is determined to keep freedom alive for the populace as a whole and has banned the wearing of veils at universities.

The niqab is a form of dress that only allows the eyes to be seen. This form of dress is representative of conservative Islam. Headscarves will still be allowed under the new rules. Other countries are considering implementing similar rules in order to protect women who feel degraded by the usage of this dressing style. I applaud the move and hope that women around the world will gain the respect they deserve.

Censorship can be a very dirty word. People in America tend to want to know the truth about our world and what’s in it. That’s why some are worried when we heard about the Italian judges who found three Google executives responsible for a video. The video contained images of an autistic child being bullied by his classmates.

Google says that it was unaware of the content of the video and took it down after complaints were heard. The whole incident leads to a question of whether Google is responsible for the information on its site and whether or not they will have to start censoring material. I hope this won’t be the case and free speech is allowed to reign.

When a meteorite lands on the earth, it becomes the property of whoever’s land it lands on. This has already been established by courts in the U.S. Such was the case of a local landlord where a meteorite fell in Virginia. The landowner has declared his intention to sell the rock to the highest bidder at auction. These rocks can be worth thousands of dollars and are collected avidly by collectors.

Meteorites can also be donated to the National Museum of Natural History that houses the world’s largest collection of space rocks. I think that is the most rightful place that these rocks could end up. Allowing the public to view these relics of the birth of space is only fair.

I love to hear people who think they can sing but really can’t! The show has been a favorite of mine for years but it seems that it will soon take a turn.

Popular show host Simon Cowell is retiring from the show next year. He will be moving on to host and produce his own British show “The X Factor”. There is much debate on who will replace the star of the show and it will be interesting to see who gets the job. As for me, I just hope the show goes on!

One thing that we’ve been hearing about is the Chinese who are sending us items that contain a high amount of lead. Since our government has taken control and outlawed the substance being used in the items we buy all the time (Children’s Toys) the Chinese have ceased using the dangerous metal. The problem is that they have switched from lead to Cadmium.

Cadmium is just as deadly as Lead. It is a toxic substance that can slow the development of learning and can shorten a person’s life. Since the ban on lead, experts have noticed an increase in the use of Cadmium in toys manufactured in China. I hope that China will soon realize that America is serious about protecting our children’s health. I call for the end of the use of Cadmium in children’s toys!!

I may also add that its not just texting, but cell phones too. I think that everyone needs to concentrate on driving while behind the wheel of a vehicle. This practice is dangerous to others as well as the person doing the offense. I hope people will keep this in mind.

It seems that the Republicans are making a comeback and the Democrats are not doing so well. The Republicans are very happy about two of the races that were held yesterday.

The Republicans scored a major victory by getting Virginia governor and New Jersey Governor wins. The impact of President Barrack Obama has waned and Republicans are celebrating the results. I think we will all have to adjust to the new changes and see where they go.

It’s so amazing when they just point that little machine at your product and it just shows up on the computer screen. I think it’s one of the neatest things ever!

I was recently introduced to a salesman of one such of these machines. He told me all about the benefits of its use. He sells a model called the Motorola MC 75 hand held computer. Not only do they speed up the process at the checkout line, they also can help a business keep track of what’s being sold. All in all, I was impressed with the whole thing and wish I had a store to use it in.

One thing that is always in the background of our daily lives is the United Nations. We hear about it all the time and the good work it does. The thing we never hear about is that there are many countries that haven’t paid their dues. It turns out that only about 11% of the countries in the U.N. are paid up.

The worst news is that the United States is one of the countries that still owes money to them. I know that we pay more than nearly every country, but we still should pay the money we owe. I hope that our government will stand up for what is right and make good on the promises we made. The world needs the benefits of this great institution.

We recently had some action around our neighborhood lately. It seems that my neighbor’s child was misbehaving and he beat her. The problem was that she called the police. The next problem was that the police actually arrested my friend. The whole neighborhood is up in arms about the ordeal and everyone is hoping the case will be dropped.

The first thing I did was to tell him to ensure that his rights were not violated. I advised him to call one of the Ventura Criminal Defense Lawyers that are available. I felt that having legal representation would be the wisest course for him. There have been cases when a simple case like this can get out of hand.

I know my friend is a decent man. He would never really hurt the child and is always looking out for her. The police always seem to escalate the situation and are not always well trained. I hope the whole thing will be resolved soon and we can all go back to worrying about our lawns!

Since the economy has been doing so poorly, there have been many repercussions. One thing that has gone bad is the ability of small companies to get credit. It seems that the banks have gotten scared and are not lending to companies even though they have a proven track record and are profitable.

The trend of the story is most depressing as the taxpayers have dumped billions of dollars into the banks in order to improve their ability to lend. If the banks still won’t lend money, then how will we be able to overcome these depressing conditions? I hope that the leaders of these financial institutions will reconsider their position and allow those people who have proven themselves to borrow!

Thousands of gays and lesbians marched together to show their support for President Barack Obama’s promise to allow gays to serve in the military openly. As part of his campaign promises, he promised to end the “Don’t ask don’t tell” policy of the military.

For all I care, I say let them serve if they want. I think everyone should help defend the country from its enemies. We need all the soldiers we can get and there is no sense in not allowing someone to serve if they want. I think the president should keep his promise and allow gays to serve.

The only problem we have is that we don’t really know why he won it. The Nobel committee explained that they hoped to encourage the peaceful intentions that they felt Obama expressed. They felt that Obama’s election was a turning point away from the former Bush administration’s policies. Whatever the reason, I think he deserves the credit due for his endeavors to promote world peace.

The latest death toll was about 715 and is expected to rise dramatically. There are also thousands missing and unaccounted for.

I hope that everyone will find it in their hearts to send up a prayer for these people and perhaps send a little money as well. I am sure they will need all the help they can get. The city lost more than 20,000 houses and buildings and will need extensive repairs to nearly everything. I wish these people good luck!
