Laid back

In California, there is such a laid back lifestyle compared to where we used to live. Where we live now, everyone dresses a lot more casual and doesn’t seem to worry about things in general so much. They kind of go with the flow. I am not saying that everything in California is much slower to catch on to things. In fact the people out here seem to be on the cutting edge of everything. It seems like people in California get the newest fashions first, or any kind of new gadget or toy always seem to show up here first. I kind of like that about living out here. But as laid back as everyone is here, I still feel like we need to be aware of our surroundings and be on the lookout for crazy people who may not have our best interests at heart. Where we used to live we always kept all our homedoors locked all the time and quite frankly lived with the fear that someone may break in at any time. Out here it is way different, and I don’t feel that way so much. But to be on the safe side, we got a security system through home security California. At least I can feel comfortable and not worry about any intruders in our home even though it seems there is not that much to worry about out here.

Weather

Saturday, September 24th, 2011

One thing has gotten me down lately is the weather. It used to be sunny every day and I enjoyed that very much. I could go to the beach and do the things that I enjoy. Lately, it’s not been so good. The rain has set in and has made life a little more difficult.

This is the time of year when the weather changes from day to day. It might be nice out or it might be cold out. I’ll be glad when winter sets in and then at least I’ll know what to expect!

Move to Texas

Written by my friend Teodoro Martin

When I first moved here to the Lone Star state I was really caught up in all the touristy ideas about the state itself. I thought everyone here wore a giant belt buckle and spent forever cooking pork each day but the more time I’ve spent here the more I’ve realized a lot of my ideas about the state are really antiquated and don’t really have any relevance nowadays. For example, Texas is really progressive in a lot of ways and they’re one of the only deregulated states out there which means I went to TexasELECTRICITYPROVIDERS.com to find an energy rate. Aside from the politics there are a lot of other things about life here that make living here better than other places, but I don’t want to start an online riot so I guess I’ll keep some of them to myself! All in all, I think I’ll be here for a while and I’m going to love every minute of it if I just keep my positive attitude about being here.

My state

The state of Virginia is currently going though a trail. The hurricane named Irene is beating us up pretty badly and it is not over yet. The roads are generally clear but most of the tunnels are closed for safety reasons. Some trees are down on the highway but there are emergency crews working on the problem.

All in all, I think things have gone as well as can be expected. The power is out for some but many places still have light. I am sure the authorities are doing all they can to keep order and ensure that everyone is safe. I am proud to be in such a great state.

Freedom of religion

Friday, July 15th, 2011

The current governor of Texas is Rick Perry. He has managed to make some people mad by proposing a Christian prayer event at Houston’s Reliant Stadium on August 6th. A group of people have protested the event saying that it has violated the First Amendment. The group is filing a suit to stop the event.

Perry maintains that he has every right to organize the event and plans to go ahead as scheduled. He says that Americans have the right to assemble even if it’s for a religious event. We will have to see what the result from the court is to tell the end of this story.
